With a Metacritic score of 76, the game helped repair the floundering reputation of modern Mario Party. On the whole, Super Mario Party was fairly well received, making it the perfect foundation for a robust sequel. This is surprising, not only because the financial incentive is there for Nintendo to release a new title, but also because Mario Party is traditionally prolific.
